It is a branch of medicine aimed at correcting hearing defects through the application of a prosthetic device. A series of preliminary investigations must be conducted to define the type of hearing defect, followed by the selection and adaptation of the hearing prosthetic device.
The Hearing Aid Specialist is the technician who:
- Administers prosthetic evaluation tests to patients with hearing impairment,
- Observes and takes the impression of the auditory canal for the creation of customised hearing aids, verifies the effectiveness and suitability of the personalised hearing device,
- Supports the prosthetic education of the hearing-impaired patient,
- Assesses the benefits of the hearing prosthetic application,
- Performs tonal and vocal audiometric tests,
- Conducts regular post-application check-ups.
